Kyiv Court of Appeal satisfied the appeal of the prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), overturning the verdict of the court of the first instance and convicting a citizen who in January 2014 took part in the detention of the EuroMaidan rallies participants, and illegally acquired and stored drugs, to six years in prison with confiscation of all property that belongs to him.

“It has been established that on Jan. 22, 2014, the convict, acting in a preliminary conspiracy with a group of people, contributed to illegal detention of the victim, whom they abducted using physical violence near Petrivka metro station in Kyiv and took him to a tent camp in the forest belt near Boryspilska metro station. For this he received a monetary reward in the amount of Hr 800,” the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said on Wednesday.

Desniansky District Court of Kyiv convicted him to imprisonment for a term of two years and five months. Disagreeing with this court decision, the prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office appealed against it in Kyiv Court of Appeal.

“The verdict of the court of appeal entered into legal force from the moment of its announcement,” the PGO said in the statement.
