Despite the global coronavirus pandemic, Ukrainians can visit 75 countries, according to Covid Controls, a map created by the U.S. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the world’s top universities.
The map collects data available on government websites of different countries, including on the European Union website. According to it, the citizens of Ukraine who have biometric passports can go to countries like Turkey, Bulgaria, Cambodia and South Korea.
Meanwhile, Ukrainians are completely forbidden to travel to the Scandinavian countries, Portugal, Hungary, Romania, Argentina and Estonia.
Most of the Western European countries remain closed only to tourists, including Ukrainian.
France, the United Kingdom and Germany, in particular, are in full lockdown until the end of January, and Israel has imposed additional restrictions after a new more contagious variant of COVID-19 swept the globe in late December.
Closed EU countries, however, still let in those who have needed permits. The U.K and France, for example, let people in if they can prove that they work, study, own property, have relatives there, or if they are diplomats or medics.
Before boarding a plane, each traveler must present proof of a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, the most accurate way of diagnosing the novel coronavirus. On board, people are required to wear facemasks.
Besides, most of the countries, including Britain and Italy, require international arrivals to undergo a 14-day quarantine. In some countries, arrivals even have to install tracing apps on their phone to prove they are abiding by the quarantine rules.
People traveling to Ukraine, for example, are required to install and use a mobile application called Diy Vdoma. Designed by the Digital Transformation Ministry, the app monitors people undergoing self-isolation using GPS data.
The app asks people to take selfies from their place of self-isolation. Then, its artificial intelligence analyzes the selfies for their GPS locations.
The app also offers information about mandatory insurance covering the treatment of COVID-19 and the hotline phone number for tourists.
