The spouse of the fifth President of Ukraine, leader of the European Solidarity Party Petro Poroshenko, Maryna Poroshenko, will head the European Solidarity list in the elections to Kyiv City Council.

This was announced during the presentation of candidates for deputies for the next elections to Kyiv City Council from the political party European Solidarity on Sept. 16.

“I want to say right away: I don’t feel like a politician, first of all, I am a citizen of my country, which I love very much. And I do care what will happen to Ukraine and how our capital will develop,” she said at the meeting of the capital team of the European Solidarity. “And my decision to run for Kyiv City Council is not least due to the fact that all these new norms do not remain on paper, but are implemented in life,” she said.

So, according to her, a European country cannot exist without the development and support of national culture, calling the creation of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund a matter of honor.

Poroshenko also said that the coronavirus epidemic is not receding and “no philanthropist can replace the functions of the state.”

“Today in Kyiv, not enough attention is paid to solving social problems. Schools and kindergartens are sorely lacking. Hospitals are not provided with modern equipment. Doctors and teachers are not protected. This means that our children and our parents are not protected. Therefore, today is not the time to watch from the outside. It’s time to act and make responsible decisions,” she said.

According to her, this is why her team is going to the Kyiv City Council, since it is time to turn the capital “into a real European capital with affordable transport and infrastructure; with modern educational, cultural and medical institutions.”
