You're reading: Media reports Ukrainian citizen imprisoned for 11 years in Donbas for espionage

The so-called “military tribunal” of certain regions of Donetsk oblast, which are under the control of Russia-backed separatists, has sentenced a citizen of Ukraine Oleh Chulha to 11 years of custody for alleged “espionage for Ukrainian security services”, the online edition “News of Donbas” has reported, citing the separatists.

Militants claim that a citizen of Ukraine Oleh Chulha, arrested in February 2015, has been found guilty of committing a crime under Article 321 (espionage) and sentenced to 11 years in prison, the online edition quoted the militants’ report on Jan. 10 morning.

This message which cites the data provided by the separatists says that “in the course of investigative and operational measures, it was found that Chulha O.N., who provided assistance to the DPR militants in the town of Slavyansk in 2014, was recruited by the SBU” and provided them information about the movement of military equipment, deployment of paramilitary units of separatists, as well as other information, and “threatening the security of the republic.”
