The holding of illegal elections in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which are not controlled by the Ukrainian government, will entail sanctions and criminal liability for those involved, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mariana Betsa has said.

“Fake elections won’t be recognized. And the sanctions and criminal liability will come,” Betsa wrote on Twitter on November 11.

At the same time she noted the involvement of Russia in this, as well as its disregard of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine.

“Russia is playing poker and is ignoring international law and the Minsk accords,” Betsa wrote.
