Lawyers Oleh Solovei and Dmytro Buhai have terminated cooperation with arrested Ukrainian parliamentarian Nadia Savchenko based on mutual consent because of her sister Vira Savchenko’s interference in their work.

“We have come to mutual consent and severed the agreement with her. That is, we do not represent her interests now. This is because of her sister Vira’s continual attempts to interfere in our work and put pressure on us and because of her incorrect behavior,” Solovei told Interfax-Ukraine on May 11.

Nadia Savchenko also signed a paper in Solovei’s and Buhai’s presence to decline services by lawyer Oleksandr Shadrin, who only recently took up her case and who had earlier handled the case of former Sloviansk Mayor Nelia Shtepa, he said.

“After us, Nadia was visited by Vira and their mother, and I don’t know whether Nadia will return Shadrin,” Solovei said.

Shadrin said he had seen Savchenko on May 11 but could not comment on the situation for the time being. He said, however, that Savchenko is supposed to have a lawyer while the court hears the extension of her arrest on May 14.

Vira Savchenko told Interfax-Ukraine that she preferred not to comment on the situation. She said she was participating in a demonstration near the Security Service detention facility in Kyiv, marking Nadia Savchenko’s birthday.
