NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy has said that the Black Sea shelf could be developed jointly with European countries, in particular with NATO-member Romania, which would ensure the safety of operations, advisor to the head of the NJSC Board of Directors Lana Zerkal said at an online briefing devoted to five years of gas independence held on Nov. 27.
According to her, the joint development of the Black Sea shelf can become one of the points of contact that will allow Ukraine to be more attractive for European partners.
“Romania, which has advanced much further in the development of its part of the shelf and has proven gas reserves, but has not yet started development, may also be interested in this,” Zerkal said.
She also said that joint work with Romania on the development of the shelf may be “more economically attractive” for Ukraine, and will also create conditions for ensuring security in the Black Sea, since Romania is already a NATO member.
