You're reading: Naftogaz head discusses cooperation in energy with US government delegation

Board Chairman of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy Andriy Kobolev and public joint-stock company Ukrgazvydobuvannia Board Chairman Oleh Prokhorenko have discussed cooperation in the energy area with a delegation of the U.S. government in Kyiv on Dec. 1.

The press service of Naftogaz reported that the sides a wide range of energy cooperation issues, including steps towards Ukraine’s gas independence.

“The representatives of the U.S. Government said they are committed to continuing energy cooperation with Ukraine. At the meeting, the parties discussed further steps for reforming Ukraine’s energy sector and maintaining conditions for secure gas transit to Europe via Ukraine,” the press service said.

Special Envoy and Energy Coordinator of the U.S. Department of State Amos Hochstein, Deputy Director in the Energy Bureau Nicole Gibson, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch and Energy and ESTH Unit Chief Anya Brunson took part in the meeting.

The press service said that Kobolev expressed his gratitude to the U.S. government for facilitating the launch of reverse gas supplies to Ukraine in 2014 and for its support in organizing gas purchase financing for Ukraine. This cooperation enables Naftogaz to ensure stable gas supplies to Ukrainian consumers and secure gas transmission to the EU. In addition, Naftogaz chief thanked the American side for its active participation in reforming Ukrgazvydobuvannia, in particular, in development of the strategy to increase gas production by 2020.

Kobolev also pointed out the important role of the U.S. partners in the implementation of the corporate governance reform at Naftogaz enterprises.
