The new head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine has not been elected.
“The head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine was not elected,” the court’s press service reported on Nov. 2.
At the same time, the reason why the election failed is not specified.
As reported, on May 18, the Constitutional Court could not elect its leadership. The court explained that in accordance with Article 20 of the law on the Constitutional Court and paragraph 1 of the rules of procedure of the Constitutional Court, the elected head of the court is the candidate who gets more than half of the vote of the constitutional composition of Constitutional Court judges. If no more than two candidates were nominated and none of them was elected, or if the head of the Constitutional Court was not elected in a repeated ballot, new elections for the head of the Constitutional Court are held.
The election of the head of the Constitutional Court was scheduled for Nov. 2.
The three-year term of office of Head of the Constitutional Court Yuriy Baulin expired on March 19. The post of the court chairman has been vacant since then.
According to the rules of procedure, the court head is elected no later than two months from the day when the post became vacant.
