You're reading: NGOs receive Hr 93,000 for aid to HIV-positive people in Ukraine

Non-governmental organizations received over Hr 93,000 for services of care and aid to HIV-positive people and for prevention measures in highly vulnerable groups, the press service of the Center for Public Health has said on Facebook.

According to the report, in general at the end of 2019, some Hr 83.8 million is envisaged in the budget for the procurement of the services mentioned above. The money will be spent on services aimed at prevention of HIV for 211,600 people and on care and aid for 21,375 HIV-positive people.

The Finance Ministry of Ukraine approved financing for the services through the Center for Public Health until the end of 2019.

Ukraine became the first country in Eastern Europe and Central Asia that will finance services for prevention and social support for patients at the expense of the national budget.

The services for prevention and support for HIV-positive people include testing, needle and syringe exchange program, consultations for persons diagnosed with HIV and psychological aid.

The financing for prevention and support for HIV-positive people is allocated from the national budget within the framework of the plan for transition from donor to public financing (20-50-80) and is aimed at strengthening the government’s ability to take priority measures for overcoming the TB and HIV/AIDS epidemics.
