Nova Poshta Group will invest Hr 1 billion in the construction of a sorting terminal near Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv), CEO of the company Oleksandr Bulba told Interfax-Ukraine.

“We deliver hundreds of millions of parcels to our customers a year. To ensure that they always receive parcels quickly, Nova Poshta is investing in sorting infrastructure. The terminal near Boryspil airport will combine the advanced technologies of world postal logistics and will be able to sort up to 100,000 parcels per hour,” he said.

According to Bulba, the total area of the terminal will be 35,000 square meters. It will house a sorting station Nova Poshta Global for international shipments, internal fulfillment, parcel and cargo buildings with a high level of automation and robotization. The terminal will also be equipped with an unmanned aerial vehicle runway.

For sorting the parcels, six three-level automated lines from the Dutch company Vanderlande and the Lithuanian company Equinox will be used. The latter will sort small cargo up to 2 kg. Thanks to the special technology of automatic placement of parcels on the conveyor, sorting of small cargo will take place without the use of human labor.

Bulba added that in addition, the terminal will have video analysis technology, which will most clearly recognize parcels with damaged markings. This will help improve the quality and consistency of delivery to customers.

At the cargo terminal, there will be robotic carts for transporting cargo through the terminal. They are already in use at terminals in Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro.

The terminal will simultaneously be able to unload and load 220 vehicles, which will become part of the relay logistics chain. To reduce carbon dioxide emissions, a system of smart container loading with Smart packs will be implemented.

According to the CEO of Nova Poshta, 300 jobs will be created at the terminal. For employees, transportation, meals, and medical insurance are provided. In addition, to prevent the spread of viral diseases, special equipment will be installed – cameras for monitoring the temperature and physical condition of workers at the entrance and exit.

The construction will take place in three stages. The first stage is planned to be launched by the end of 2022.

As reported, the EBRD will provide a loan of 13 million euros to Nova Poshta for the construction of a terminal in Dnipro.

Nova Poshta Group includes, in particular, the companies Nova Poshta, NP Logistic, NovaPay, and Nova Poshta Global. The company’s network has more than 8,700 branches throughout Ukraine, and the number of shipments in 2020 alone exceeded 327 million. In 2020, the group transferred Hr 5 billion in taxes and fees to the country’s budget.
