Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak has met with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement.

The sides discussed the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine.

Additionally, Novak said that despite various forms of opposition and new risks, the Nord Stream 2 project is going ahead.

By the end of May, 1,391 kilometers of pipe had been laid, or 57 percent of the total (2,448 kilometers in two lines).

“As for the amendments to the EU’s Gas Directive that expand its reach to the territorial waters of EU countries, a preliminary analysis shows that there are several possibilities for adapting the Nord Stream 2 project to the new requirements. Experts are studying them,” Novak was quoted as saying.
