Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan has said that passenger flow to the Russian Federation in 2018 fell by 18 percent.

“The trend continues and we see that in 2018, passenger traffic in the direction of Russia again fell by 15 percent. Moreover, if to Russia it is more than 16%, then in the opposite direction it is more than 15%. This is an objective reality,” he said on January 15 during the Echo of Ukraine talk show on the Pryamiy TV channel.

The minister also said that Ukraine, for its part, is actively developing the direction of railway communication with the European Union.

“More than 20 trains were launched in a short period of time. We are developing both Poland and Hungary. This year I hope the Slovak direction will be launched, as well as (trains to) the Czech Republic. This story is just beginning,” Omelyan said.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the fact that Ukrainians, without any instructions from above, are making a choice in favor of the EU countries instead of Russia.

As reported, Omelyan said that the railway communication of Ukraine with the Russian Federation would be stopped.
