An explosion occurred at a shopping center on Borshchahivska Street in Kyiv, with one person sustaining an injury to his arm.

The police received information about the blast around noon on Jan. 12, the communication department of the Kyiv police wrote on their Facebook page.

“According to initial reports, an explosion thundered on the 3rd floor of the building which was under repair. According to witnesses, one of the men present there tried to check the fire alarm in the office area by igniting a smoke bomb, which exploded in his hand. This information will be checked,” the police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital. He is being provided with necessary medical care.

At the time of the explosion, there were no visitors in the room, and all persons who were doing the repairs have been evacuated.

The information has been logged in the Unified Register of Statements and Messages of the Solomyansky District Police Department. After the examination is over, the police will provide a legal assessment of the incident.
