Russian-backed militants attacked Ukrainian lines in the warzone of Donbas six times throughout July 4 despite the ongoing ceasefire. One Ukrainian military medic was killed and one serviceman was injured.
Yurii Pysmennyi of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade sustained a fatal shell shrapnel injury. Originally from Dnipro, he was 59 years old. Pysmennyi is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
“It happened in broad daylight. The occupants opened fire, and the shrapnel of an enemy shell wounded a medic. The injuries turned out to be fatal,” said the unit’s statement.
Another serviceman sustained a shrapnel wound and was evacuated for hospitalization. He is now in satisfactory condition.
As of 7 a.m. July 5, Russian-sponsored militants have opened fire three times.
