The original version of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk has arrived in Ukraine for Independence Day from Sweden, MP of Ukraine and representative of the Verkhovna Rada at the Constitutional Council Olha Sovhyria said on Facebook on August 10.

“For the first time in 311 years, the original version of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk has been brought to Ukraine! We are expecting to exhibit it for Independence Day,” Sovhyria said.

She notes that three copies of the constitution, handed over by Sweden, are already on display in Ukraine: in the Parliament and in the President’s Office. The third copy will be submitted to the Constitutional Court after its reform.

As reported earlier, the constitution was expected to arrive on August 16, a week before the Independence Day of Ukraine.

The Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk – Pacts and Constitutions of Rights and Freedoms of the Zaporizhia Host – a constitutional treaty of Hetman of Ukraine Pylyp Orlyk with the foreman and the Cossacks, which determined the rights and obligations of all members of the Zaporizhia Cossack Army. The Constitution was concluded on April 5, 1710, in the city of Bender during the election of Orlyk as hetman.
