Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) Alexander Hug has called for opening of more checkpoints for civilian population in the Luhansk region.

More crossing points in the area of Luhansk should be opened, one of possibilities is the populated locality of Zolote, another one is opening a bridge near Shchastia and a checkpoint on this bridge, but the parties are unwilling to take steps towards it in all those cases, he said at a press conference on Wednesday.

There are no technical difficulties to open new checkpoints on the contact line, Hug said.

The issue is unwillingness to facilitate it on both sides of the contact line, he said.
