You're reading: Pfizer reacts to death of Ukrainian after vaccination

Pfizer has released a statement on the death of the Ukrainian after vaccination and stated that no “causal link” has been established in this case.

“Our immediate thoughts are with the bereaved family. We take adverse events that are potentially associated with our COVID-19 vaccine, BNT162b2, very seriously. We note at this time that no causal link has been established in this case,” says the statement.

A 47-year-old resident of Vinnytsia Oblast died on July 2 four hours after being vaccinated against coronavirus with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Since his death occurred within 30 days after vaccination, it was reported as an adverse event after immunization. Five other people who were vaccinated from the same multi-dose vial remain in a satisfactory condition. According to the preliminary results of forensic examination, the cause of death was acute cardiovascular failure.

More than 400 million people worldwide have now been vaccinated with Pfizer. In Ukraine, 583,000 people were vaccinated with Pfizer.

Overall, two million people in Ukraine have received their first shot of COVID-19 vaccine since February, and 850,394 are fully vaccinated. The vaccines available in Ukraine are Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, and Coronavac (Sinovac).

Ukraine, with a population of 42 million, has had 2.24 million COVID-19 cases and 52,484 deaths as of July 5.
