Within the framework of open criminal proceedings, law enforcement officers are considering two main versions of the murder of a public activist in Sumy – a contract murder and a murder committed on the basis of hostile relations, the Police Communications Department in Sumy region reports.

The police note that at present, priority investigative actions are ongoing aimed at establishing the circumstances of the incident and the person involved in the crime.

“Among the motives for the crime is the version of the murder, committed in connection with the activities of the victim, and the murder on the basis of personal hostile relationships. The body was sent to the morgue for a forensic medical examination in order to establish the causes of death,” the message says.

The wife of the deceased said that after arriving home, she and her husband got out of the car and went to the house, when an unknown person ran up to them and fired seven or eight shots from a firearm at her husband.

“As a result, he received three bullet wounds in the back and one in the chest. From which the victim died at the scene,” the statement said.

The police recalled that at about 21:00 on Oct. 27, the police received a message that an unknown person had fired on Zalyvna Street, and a bloody unknown man was lying.

Leaving the police station, law enforcement officers found the body of a man. It turned out to be a 28-year-old resident of Sumy.

On this fact, the police initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Procedural guidance on criminal proceedings is carried out by Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

As reported, on Wednesday evening in Sumy, representative of the Right Sector Oleksandr Ivanina was killed.
