Law enforcers, as part of a special operation in Odesa region, released a Greek citizen and his nephew, who were kidnapped and tortured in order to take possession of their property.
“It was established that in February 2021, a criminal group of persons illegally deprived of liberty a 55-year-old Greek citizen and his 27-year-old nephew in order to take possession of their property. It was established that the offenders had been torturing their victims for two months, in particular with an iron, threatened them with firearms, and exercised physical and psychological pressure. Experiencing torture, the victim handed over 600,000 euros to the members of the criminal group and the ownership of six apartments in the elite districts of Odesa,” the press service of the National Police of Ukraine said.
In the course of carrying out investigative and operational measures, law enforcement officers established the whereabouts of the victims and persons involved in the crime. On Tuesday, April 13, employees of Odesa Region Migration Police Department, together with criminal investigation officers, investigators and with the involvement of special police officers, released the victims.
Two suspects in the abduction and torture of the victims were arrested. At the same time, the active phase of implementation continues, investigative actions are being carried out, including searches. The circle of all persons involved in the crime is being established, and a legal assessment will be given to their actions.
