You're reading: Poll: More than 60% of Ukrainians have a negative attitude towards Stalin

A total of 62% of Ukrainians consider the activities of Joseph Stalin as a historical figure were negative for Ukraine, according to the results of a national poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center.

According to the survey, the majority of residents in all regions agree with this: in the West and the Center, 78% and 69% of citizens accordingly think so, in the South and the East – 45% each. Some 12% of the inhabitants of the East consider his activity to be mostly positive.

All-Ukrainian poll “Victory Day and its Place in the Historical Memory of the Ukrainian: what Meaning do Citizens Put into this Date?” was held by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center from April 22 to 29, 2021 in all regions of Ukraine, except Crimea and the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

A total of 2,021 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed. The theoretical sampling error is 2.3%.
