You're reading: Poll says more than half of Ukrainian citizens have negative attitude towards Russia

Almost 70% of Ukrainian citizens believe that events in the state are developing in the wrong direction and more than half negatively relate to the Russian Federation.

These are the results of a sociological study conducted by the Center for Social Monitoring and made public at a press conference entitled “Monitoring of Ukrainian Population’s Public Opinion: June 2020. Radicalization of Sentiment against Backdrop of Economic, Political Crisis” at the Interfax-Ukraine agency on Tuesday.

So, 69.9% of respondents are sure that Ukraine is developing in the wrong direction, 30.1% – of the opposite opinion.

For comparison, in December last year, 45.3% of respondents believed that Ukraine was going the wrong way, and 54.7% believed that everything was being done right.

According to the survey, 24% of respondents are of negative opinion about the Russian Federation, 31.8% are more likely negative.

The percentage of those who have positive relation towards the eastern neighbor is 31.3% (6.8% – very positive and 24.5% – rather positive), 12.9% found it difficult to answer the question.

During the study, conducted on June 10-19, 2020, by a personal interview at the place of residence of the respondent, 3,037 people were interviewed in all regions of Ukraine, except for the occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions and Crimea. The sampling error is 1.1-1.9%.
