Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has awarded an Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 1st Degree, to President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

“[I’m] proud of the opportunity to give an award to a big friend of Ukraine – President of the European Union Donald Tusk,” Poroshenko said on Facebook on May 13.

An official award ceremony took place in Brussels on May 13 and was broadcast live on Poroshenko’s Facebook page.

Later in Brussels, after a meeting with Tusk, Poroshenko told reporters that he had awarded an Order of Yaroslav the Wise to President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker.

“I’ve decided to honor President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker with the highest state award of Ukraine for foreign citizens with the Order of Yaroslav the Wise, and I firmly believe that they deserve this high award as friends of Ukraine, as true reliable partners of Ukraine, on which we have relied in the last five years and about whom we can definitely say that they sincerely share the goals of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Ukrainian state under my presidency,” Poroshenko said.

As expected, Poroshenko is to meet with Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on May 14.
