Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has thanked the United States and Canada for their support in the security field and Ukraine’s inclusion in the Automatic Firearms Country Control List.
“I am grateful to Washington and Ottawa for a strong and timely message of support! As agreed, the US authorized security assistance to our country, and Canada added Ukraine to the Automatic Firearms Country Control List,” Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook account on Dec.13.
“The path to enhanced military support to Ukraine has opened. We continue to strengthen our security partnership with a united front in order to resist aggression and restore Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he wrote.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada Andriy Shevchenko wrote earlier on Twitter that Canada has lifted restrictions on the sale of firearms to Ukraine.
“We translate ‘the Automatic Firearms Country Control List’ as ‘the checklist of countries to which supplies of automatic firearms are authorized.’ Ukraine’s inclusion in this list provides the legal grounds for the supply of many types of weapons to Ukraine,” he wrote.
