The mechanism of the constitutional complaint should operate in full force in the near future, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said.

“One of the main innovations in the Constitution, for which the parliament voted, is a constitutional complaint. This is a large amount of additional work for you [judges of the Constitutional Court]. But this is a unique democratic tool, when every citizen of Ukraine will have a unique opportunity to protect his rights and I am convinced that the mechanism of the constitutional complaint must operate in full force in the near future, since this right was granted to Ukrainian citizens under the Constitution one and a half years ago, and they have been waiting a very long time for the realization of this right to take advantage of this,” the president said at the ceremony of taking the oath by the newly appointed judges of the Constitutional Court at a special plenary session of the Constitutional Court in Kyiv on Friday.

Poroshenko noted that he strives to have an independent, fair and impartial court in Ukraine.

“This was the goal of the constitutional reform of the Ukrainian judicial system: this is the right of citizens to justice. This is the protection of investors … I want that fair laws, which the Verkhovna Rada adopts, to start functioning at last. I strive for unconstitutional laws to be identified and corrected. This is an extremely high responsibility of yours,” the president said.
