Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko hopes the presidents of France and the United States will raise the issue of getting Ukrainian prisoners released at their respective meetings with the Russian president.

“I want to say separately that at my meeting, not just with President [Donald] Trump but also with President Emmanuel Macron, we also thoroughly discussed a great number of issues, from military-technical cooperation to the hostage release issue. President Macron said a meeting with [Vladimir] Putin was likely on Sunday, and I hope the hostage issue will also be raised in Helsinki on July 16,” Poroshenko told Ukrainian journalists during the NATO summit in Brussels on July 12.

“At every meeting, including the one with Erdogan which just ended, where the importance of the release of Ukrainian Tatars was explicitly stressed – at all of these meetings, the hostage issue was a priority,” he said.
