You're reading: Poroshenko hopes Sweden will support economic sanctions against Russia during next revision in Dec

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven have discussed the continuation of economic sanctions against Russia and the future of the Nord Stream 2 project.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian president, during a meeting in Brussels Poroshenko briefed the Swedish premier on the security situation in Donbas and the state of implementation of the Minsk agreements.

“The head of state expressed hope for Sweden’s continued support for the extension of economic sanctions against Russia during the next revision of the sanctions regime at the December meeting of the European Council,” the report states.

Poroshenko also noted a high level of cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in the framework of non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council, and also welcomed Sweden’s supporting as a co-author of the draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on the violation of human rights in occupied Crimea.

“The leaders paid attention to the latest events in the context of the EU’s considering the issue of the future of the Nord Stream 2 project and agreed on further coordination,” reads the report.
