Ukraine should value the strategic partnership with the United States and bipartisan support in Congress, fifth president of Ukraine, leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko has said.
“The key position, and it is very important for the authorities to understand this, is that we must value relations with the United States as a strategic partner, regardless of who was elected as president,” he said on the air of the Freedom of Speech of Savik Shuster television program.
Poroshenko expressed confidence that “no telephone conversations, no Russian scenarios of the ‘fifth column’ within the state” will destroy this bipartisan support.
He said that the United States also held Congress and Senate elections.
“It is very important that our main friends in the U.S. Congress were re-elected, both Marcy Kaptur, who chaired the Ukrainian Caucus, and everyone who traditionally fights for Ukraine, today represent the U.S. people in the U.S. Congress. We appreciate this very much,” the leader of the European Solidarity party said.
“If there are no mistakes of the Ukrainian leadership, if there is no amateurishness and we use the window of open opportunities, I emphasize that in 2021, after the inauguration, we will receive weapons, funding, a new package of sanctions, and Putin will definitely not like this. We can to hold negotiations and get the Patriot anti-aircraft kit. We can prevent the reforms from being stopped and receive funding, support for our movement, as it is written in the Constitution at my suggestion, until full membership in the European Union, NATO, Euro-Atlantic integration,” Poroshenko said.
