Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel during the talks have agreed on a series of meetings on the settlement of the situation in Donbas region, including in the Normandy format (Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia), Deputy Head of Administration President of Ukraine Konstantin Yeliseyev said.
“Today, the solidarity with Ukraine has been reaffirmed. They agreed on new contacts, both bilateral and in the Normandy format in order to give a new impetus to the peaceful settlement [of the Donbas conflict],” Yeliseyev said on the air of Channel 5 on Jan. 31.
The deputy head of the presidential administration also noted that Merkel and Poroshenko raised a number of issues, including the preservation of sanctions against Russia, as well as the intensification of the Normandy format and the involvement of representatives of the new U.S. administration to the negotiation process on Donbas.
“We continue to work together with France and Germany on convincing Russia to observe the Minsk agreement, and also to find the ways to engage the American side into the processes in Ukraine and around Ukraine,” Yeliseyev said.
