You're reading: Poroshenko, Sefcovic discuss Ukraine’s further integration into EU energy market in Davos

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has met with the European Commission’s Vice President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“The head of state thanked the EU and personally the European commissioner for the invariable support for Ukraine on the path of reform in the energy sphere and the strengthening of energy independence… The parties discussed ways of further integrating the Ukrainian energy market into the EU’s and possible mechanisms of making Ukraine part of the EU Energy Union,” the Ukrainian presidential press office said in a statement on Jan.24.

The parties expressed their satisfaction with the completed work needed to launch Ukraine’s energy efficiency fund into which the EU intends to pay 100 million euro.

Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine is committed to further reform of the energy sector in accordance with its obligations under the Energy Community Treaty and Association Agreement with the EU.
