Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has held a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the press service of the Ukrainian presidential administration said.

“President Poroshenko briefed on the open aggression committed by Russia against Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait area, the increase in the number of Russian military equipment on the border, and the response steps taken by Ukraine to de-escalate Russian aggression, including the imposition of martial law,” according to a report published on the presidential administration’s website on Nov. 29 evening.

Trudeau, for his part, reaffirmed Canada’s full support of Ukraine, its territorial integrity and unimpeded shipping, at the same time condemning Russia’s actions.

Poroshenko called on the international community to increase sanctions pressure on Russia in order to get it to release the recently detained Ukrainian sailors, the press service said.

Speaking ahead of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the sides also coordinated their positions on how to protect Ukraine.
