Leader of the European Solidarity party, co-chairman of the eponymous faction Petro Poroshenko is in favor of holding a closed meeting of the Verkhovna Rada with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to consider the issue of the country’s defense capability.

“Definitely, it is time to hold a closed meeting of the Verkhovna Rada with the participation of Zelensky in order to stop the undermining of the state’s combat capability,” Poroshenko said at the 13th party congress in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to him, it is absolutely not enough not to reduce the defense budget to protect the country, “especially since the government defense procurement has been fulfilled only by half.”

He said that one of the demands of the European Solidarity Party is to increase the financial support of servicemen.

Poroshenko believes that today they are trying to destroy the army again, as in the times of Yanukovych, “at least to render it incapacitated.” According to him, with only 27 MPs in the faction, European Solidarity will not be able to push through all of its demands when considering the 2021 budget next week.

“But only the holiday hours will strike 12 times, the struggle for budget adjustments and the fulfillment of our requirements should and will become a priority in our work in the new year. In the interests of pensioners, medical workers, teachers, the army, local government, SMEs,” Poroshenko said.
