You're reading: Poroshenko tells NATO chief of national security reform to alliance’s standards

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko spoke by telephone to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, informing him of the situation in Donbas and the ongoing reform in the national security and defense sector in accordance with the NATO standards.

“The head of state has confirmed that Ukraine is continuing to implement the course towards its Euro-Atlantic integration and actively reforming its security and defense sector in accordance with the NATO standards. In this context, [the president] mentioned the recent approval by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of a Ukrainian bill on national security,” a statement on the presidential website said.

The conversation also focused on pressing issues concerning further cooperation in the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Commission.

Poroshenko thanked NATO for its consistent political support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and “the important practical assistance in countering the Russian aggression.”
