Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called on the UN member states to recognize the Holodomor (man-made famine) in Ukraine in 1932-1933 as an act of genocide.

“The United Nations has always played a leading role in ensuring that the crimes of the past can never be repeated […] I call on all UN member states to make their own historic decision to recognize the Holodomor as an act of genocide,” Poroshenko said speaking at the general debate of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Sept.20.
