Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence spoke over the phone on Sept. 18 and discussed holding a meeting between Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting may take place next week in New York during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session.
According to information from the White House and the Ukrainian presidential office, Pence and Zelensky also discussed military cooperation between Kyiv and Washington, including military support. Zelensky told Pence about his country’s progress in fighting corruption. In turn, Pence assured Zelensky of the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and reform path.
Earlier, Ambassador William Taylor, chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, announced that a meeting between the presidents would be possible during the UN General Assembly session, which will be held in New York on Sept. 23-26.
