You're reading: PrivatBank continues topping list of most profitable Ukrainian banks

State-controlled PrivatBank in January-June continued to top the list of the most profitable Ukrainian banks, declaring Hr 14.04 billion of net profit, despite the loss of Hr 5.58 billion seen in June, according to the data posted on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on Aug. 5.

State-owned Ukreximbank recorded the largest loss, as a month earlier, of Hr 1.92 billion, including Hr 339.43 million of loss seen in June.

Oschadbank (Hr 3.59 billion) ranked second in the list of the most profitable banks, Raiffeisen Bank Aval (Hr 2.07 billion) ranked third. FUIB is in the fourth position (Hr 1.25 billion), and Citibank (Hr 673.19 million) is fifth.

According to the central bank, in January-May 2020, Prominvestbank (PIB, Hr 219.21 million) in terms of losses, Bank Credit Dnipro ranked second (Hr 148.44 million) ranked third, Pravex-Bank (Hr 76.79 million) ranked fourth and BTA Bank (Hr 43.06 million) was fifth.

In general, in the first six months of 2020, the net profit of solvent banks decreased by 23%, to Hr 23.8 billion from the corresponding figure a year earlier (over Hr 31 billion).

Some 59 of 75 banks operating in Ukraine were profitable during this period, according to NBU data.

According to the statistics of the National Bank, in terms of total assets, PrivatBank (Hr 576.39 billion) ranked first for the indicated period, Oschadbank (Hr 272.17 billion) ranked second, Ukreximbank (Hr 226.73 billion) ranked third, Ukrgasbank (Hr 156.67 billion) ranked fourth, while Raiffeisen Bank Aval (Hr 102.35 billion) ranked fifth.
