Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova has approved a report on the suspicion of the former first deputy head of the board of PJSC PrivatBank, he was detained at Boryspil International Airport.

“The former official tried to leave the borders of Ukraine on a private jet in the direction of Vienna, having departed from Dnipro. Due to the efforts of law enforcement officers, the plane landed at Boryspil airport, where the person was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine,” the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) said on Monday.

According to the information the former official is reasonably suspected of embezzling PrivatBank funds on an especially large scale through abuse of office (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Procedural guidance in criminal proceedings is carried out by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), pretrial investigation is conducted by detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

The PGO statement does not disclose the name of the detained former official, however, as Interfax-Ukraine previously reported, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, it is about deputy first deputy head of PrivatBank Volodymyr Yatsenko.
