You're reading: Prystaiko: Minsk agreements need to be change

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko has confirmed that Ukraine is working on a new version of the Minsk agreements, although Russia has publicly opposed the introduction of amendments. Prystaiko made the comments in an interview with Voice of America (VOA).

“Now it is 2020, and we still have not reached peace. Therefore, we believe that this document is not just possible, but necessary to change, because some of its provisions are impossible to implement,” the Foreign Minister said in the interview published on VOA’s website.

Prystaiko said that the Ukrainian side is now working on “to force all participants to agree that the Minsk agreements have run their course and require change.”

The Ukrainian minister pointed out that some changes to the Minsk agreements had already been made, in particular, “Steinmeier’s formula and the disengagement of forces” and stressed that “Russia wasn’t against those actions.”

According to Prystaiko, “a new document will probably be generated over time, which will be easier to implement and achieve results.”
