Verkhovna Rada has adopted bill No. 3734 on amending the law of Ukraine on higher education (on the peculiarities of entering institutions of higher education of people from the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol city, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and other categories of people as well).
According to a correspondent of Interfax-Ukraine, some 310 MPs voted for the document.
The bill under Zelensky’s authorship was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada on June 24 and was identified by the president as pressing issue.
As reported, on June 22, the president has initiated amendments to the law on higher education, simplifying the enrollment in higher education institutions for school graduates from the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk regions and Crimea.
“The changes will provide that children from these territories will be able to enter universities of Ukraine without an external independent assessment and be able to enter all universities of Ukraine, and not according to a limited separate list, as it is happening now,” the presidential press service said.
In addition, according to the changes proposed by the president, graduates from temporarily occupied territories will study at Ukrainian universities for free, through a state order within quotas.
“This is part of our national policy. We are fighting for young people in those territories, we want to encourage such graduates to move to Ukraine, enter our educational institutions, and study in the Ukrainian educational system,” Zelensky said.
