The Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of adopting at first reading bill No. 3822 on the specifics of reforming state-owned enterprises of the defense industry, which provides for the transformation of the state concern Ukroboronprom into a joint-stock company, and the state-owned enterprises that are part of it – into economic entities.

The bill on the introduction of a corporate model for managing state-owned property in the defense industry at a session on Jan. 29 was supported by 277 MPs.

According to Deputy Minister of Development of Economy, Agriculture and Trade Svitlana Panaiotidi, corporatization of Ukroboronprom will help overcome the crisis and turn the enterprises of the state concern into competitive companies. She noted that these are about 137 companies, of which 21 are located in the territories temporarily occupied by Russia.

At the same time, Panaiotidi said that the bill will be finalized by the second reading.

“The law creates surgical instruments for carrying out a super-complex operation to transform the post-Soviet defense industry into a modern defense holding. With transparent instruments of control, accountability and responsibility for the result,” First Deputy General Director of the Ukroboronprom state concern Roman Bondar said on Facebook.
