You're reading: Rada Committee approves draft reform of Security Service of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence approved Bill No. 3196-d amending the Law on the Security Service of Ukraine to improve the organizational and legal framework of the SBU work, Deputy Head of the Committee Maryana Bezuhla (Servant of the people) said.

“The committee has just recommended [the bill] on the reform of the SBU. In the hall 5.10.21,” Bezuhla wrote on Facebook.

Earlier, the U.S. supported the SBU reform.

“The U.S. supports Ukraine’s plan to reform the SBU by drawing up and clearly defining its powers and tightening rules to protect human rights and ensure effective public oversight,” a joint statement of Kyiv and Washington on the two countries’ strategic partnership said on Sept. 1.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted this bill at the first reading on Jan. 28.
