The Verkhovna Rada has approved a decision to grant the status of servicemen, who were killed by a wound, a blast injury, a serious injury or a disease caused by military service, to medical workers, who died of the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, for the time of the quarantine or the lockdown restrictions introduced due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Some 340 MPs voted in favor of bill No. 3376-1 on amendments to Article 39 of the law of Ukraine on the protection of the population from infectious diseases (on additional guarantees of rights of medical and other workers involved in the protection of the population from infectious diseases and their family members).
The bill was submitted to parliament by MPs David Arakhamia, Mykhailo Radutsky, Halyna Tretiakova, Vadym Rabinovich, Oleh Kulinich, and Halyna Yanchenko.
According to the bill, family members, parents and beneficiaries (determined in line with the Family Code of Ukraine) of such a medical worker will receive the same rights and guarantees that are envisaged under Ukrainian legislation for family members, parents and beneficiaries of servicemen.
