Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has ratified a guarantee agreement between Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the provision of a loan in the amount of 150 million euros for electrification of the Dolynska-Mykolaiv-Kolosivka railway line.

According to a posting on the website of the parliament, a total of 332 MPs backed the document last week.

According to an explanatory note to the document, the project of electrification of the Ukrainian railway provides for the installation of the second track, electrification and modernization of alarm and communication systems in the Dolynska-Mykolaiv-Kolosivka line. It is expected that this will increase the overall throughput capacity, provide for energy savings during transportation by rail and reduce operating costs.

In addition, it is expected that electrification will provide for significant savings in diesel fuel and improve the environmental situation in the region by eliminating CO2 emissions.

The guarantee agreement between Ukraine and the EBRD was signed on Dec. 30, 2017.
