The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has sent bill №4201 on the abolition of the transition to “summer” and “winter” time in Ukraine to the relevant committee for revision for a second reading.

The relevant decision was supported by 226 MPs at a plenary session on March 19.

Article 5 of this bill provides that the seasonal transition of time in Ukraine will no longer be carried out. At the same time, the bill proposes to fix winter time in Ukraine (UTC + 2 according to the international system Coordinated Universal Time).

It is also proposed to establish a common Kyiv time throughout the territory of Ukraine, without exception. The initiator of the bill, first deputy spokesperson Ruslan Stefanchuk, believes that this will ensure the protection of territorial integrity and strengthening of the national security of Ukraine, since the time of the aggressor state, Russia, is set in the temporarily occupied territories of the country.

If adopted the bill will enter into force the next day after its publication in the Voice of Ukraine parliamentary newspaper. Thus, in Ukraine, the need to switch to daylight saving time on March 28 can be removed.
