The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine intends to legalize and regulate private detective activity.

Some 334 MPs voted for relevant bill No. 3010 on private detective activity at first reading at the Feb. 17 meeting.

According to the explanatory note, the purpose of the bill is to regulate the implementation of private detective activity as one of the ways to ensure the constitutional guarantee of a citizen, business entities of private law.

The bill defines and regulates the scope of private detective activity, including the types of detective services, qualification requirements for private detectives, basic rights and obligations of subjects of private detective activity, including legal mechanisms for protecting the interests of customers of detective services.

The document also defines the obligations of the subject of private detective activity to record the provided detective services, preserve confidential information, and protect personal data obtained in the process of providing these services.

The bill also stipulates the organization of government and public control over private detective activities.
