You're reading: Razumkov confirms Rada received letter from ombudsman regarding bill on de-oligarchization

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov confirmed information that the parliament had received an official letter from the Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova indicating the inconsistency of the draft law No. 5599 “On Prevention of Threats to National Security Associated with the Excessive Influence of Persons with Significant Economic or Political Weight in Public Life (oligarchs).”

“Indeed, Liudmyla Leontiyivna sent a corresponding letter. Now we figure out, study and after that, there will be a little more information – and I will be able to answer more widely. There is a vision connected with compliance with the Constitution, but we can’t interpret the Constitution precisely, there are officials (for this). On the other hand, there are issues related to the Venice Commission,” Razumkov said at a briefing on September 6.

However, he said that this week the Rada does not plan to consider the bill on de-oligarchization, as it is in the profile committee.

“If I’m not mistaken, 1,257 amendments have been submitted to it. This is a large number. The committee has not considered them yet. I think that in the near future it will be able to consider them, and as soon as it is ready, within the Rules, it will be able to consider them in parliament, directly – at the plenary session,” the speaker said.
