RFE/RL: ‘Murderers not found’ two years after journalist Sheremet killed in Kyiv

Sheremet, who worked in Ukraine and Russia, was killed on his way to work in Kviv two years ago when his assassins detonated a bomb planted under his car. A 2017 documentary "Killing Pavel" raises questions about the involvement of the Security Service of Ukraine, allegations that the powerful law enforcement agency denied. Despite the promises of top politicians, including President Petro Poroshenko and Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, to make solving the case a priority, the investigation stalled a long time ago with no progress reported. Violence against journalists in Ukraine often goes unpunished. The most famous unsolved murder of a journalist is that of Georgiy Gongadze, abducted and killed on Sept. 16, 2000. While four police officers went to prison for Gongadze's murder, the chief suspect in ordering the slaying, ex-President Leonid Kuchma, has never faced a credible investigation. (Volodymyr Petrov)
