BUDAPEST – Russia and Hungary have discussed the prospects of gas deliveries to Europe in light of the uncertainty over gas supplies via Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“We have also discussed the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine. First and foremost, this concerns the problems of energy routes and supplies of Russian energy carriers to Hungary and to our main consumers in Europe,” he said following the meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“Transit shipments of Russian gas are being made to Western Europe via the territory of Hungary. Underground storage facilities enable the non-stop supplies to European consumers, including at the time of peak loads. We view Hungary as one of the priority partners for distributing Russian gas shipments to Europe along current routes, and along new ones, both the northern one and the southern one,” Putin added.
