Mikheil Saakashvili, former President of Georgia and former Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, has said his appointment as head of the Executive Committee for Reforms shows that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can take unusual measures.
“Therefore, the president is very determined about radical reforms and changes. I liked his attitude a lot, because the very fact of my appointment shows that he is ready to take extraordinary steps, which a huge number of people advised him not to take. Most of the people who tried to talk him out of it are those who want Ukraine to maintain the status quo, but status quo is stagnation,” Saakashvili said on Facebook.
“Ukraine needs to stop stagnating,” he said, adding that he is ready to do all he can to help Zelensky, using his experience, successes, and failures.
“Thanks a lot to everyone who supported my candidacy, but the main work begins now. We cannot do anything without good cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada, with the government, with civil society and businesses, and we should definitely achieve our goals!” Saakashvili said.
Saakashvili was appointed head of the Executive Committee for Reforms, which is part of the Ukrainian presidential National Reforms Council, in the evening of May 7.
The Executive Committee for Reforms is an auxiliary body under the president of Ukraine, whose main task is to prepare proposals on the strategic planning of reforms, their coordinated implementation, and the monitoring of reform implementation.
