This decision was made at the party’s assembly in Kyiv on January 3, a correspondent of the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency has reported.

The assembly was attended by MPs of the Samopomich faction, the Verkhovna Rada’s deputy chairperson Oksana Syroyid, and Samopomich members from local governments.

Also, the assembly was attended by Democratic Alliance Party leader Vasyl Hatsko and Hlukhiv mayor Michel Terestchenko (Sumy region).

In his address to the assembly, Terestchenko said he supports Sadovy as their presidential candidate.

As reported earlier, in October 2018, Samopomich and the Democratic Alliance signed an agreement on cooperation in the upcoming presidential, parliamentary and local elections in Ukraine, as well as on the support for leader of Samopomich Party, mayor of Lviv Sadovy in the presidential elections in 2019.

On October 1, Terestchenko announced his decision to step down from the post of the mayor of Hlukhiv and run for president of Ukraine. However, almost two months later, he declared that he was ready to return to his old post because of the decision of the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, to impose martial law in Ukraine.
